Credit Unions in the Community

Credit unions exist for the benefit of its members. Because of this strong association with members, credit unions also are closely and actively tied to their communities.

Credit Unions for Kids/Children’s Miracle Network

Since 1998, The Hawaii Credit Union League has endorsed the Credit Unions for Kids program. Credit Unions for Kids is a nationwide collaboration of credit unions and related system organizations engaged in fund-raising activities to benefit 170 Children’s Miracle Network affiliated children’s hospitals serving 14 million kids.

Hawaii’s credit unions have raised over $400,000 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children through the Credit Unions for Kids/Children’s Miracle Network program. All of the money raised stays in Hawaii to benefit the programs and services of the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children—which includes Wilcox Hospital on the island of Kauai and programs and services on Maui and the Big Island.

Have a Rice Day – Feed The Hungry

Have a Rice Day is a statewide credit union campaign to benefit the Hawaii Food Bank. This campaign will run from September 9 to November 10, 2011. It will focus on collecting bags of rice to feed underprivileged individuals across the state.

The Hawaii Food Bank was chosen as a partner for this campaign because of its affiliation with food banks and pantries on all islands. Since rice is a main part of many local meals, the goal of “Have a Rice Day” is to collect 250,000 pounds of rice.
