In Star Wars, a JEDI was expected to be rational, patient, and compassionate.

A JEDI was expected to understand the dark and light in all things, to see accurately, exercise caution, and use their abilities for good. A JEDI was to be humble, believe in service to others, and be devoted to their life’s mission.

Many qualities of a credit union leader are mirrored in the JEDI tradition. Hawaii Credit Union League introduced its Junior Executive Development Initiative (JEDI program) to engage and equip young credit union professionals to be the industry leaders of tomorrow.

JEDI participate in two signature League events:  the Regulatory and Governmental Affairs Conference and the Annual Convention. During these programs, JEDI engage in value added activities such as exclusive dialogue with session speakers, working at the Political Action Committee table, and networking opportunities that allow interaction with industry leaders. Post-conference assignments help solidify the learning experience.

Shadae Vann, Pearl Hawaii FCU training specialist said, “I feel truly honored to be part of the JEDI group and I can't wait for our next event together. Just meeting and talking with credit union leaders and listening to their individual journeys was very inspiring for a young credit union professional. I feel so blessed to work in an industry that values young professionals and it just confirms that my journey is just getting started.”

Those selected to be JEDI this year will be awarded fully-paid registration for two days at the HCUL Regulatory and Governmental Affairs Conference in the November. This includes educational sessions, access to the exhibit area and meals. JEDI also receive a 50 percent discount to attend this conference and the HCUL Annual Convention next year, if willing to mentor incoming JEDI by participating in group activities and serving as a Chapter representative.
