You don’t need a cape to be a child’s hero… just a cardboard box

January 24, 2012
Mark your calendars for the next Credit Unions for Kids/Children’s Miracle Network national campaign, the Change a Childs Life coin drive. The campaign runs from March 1 through April 30. Credit unions order the FREE coin canisters and place them in areas where members and employees interact. CO-OP Financial Services is underwriting the campaign costs, so you can Change a Child’s Life at NO CHARGE to your credit union.
Employees simply invite members to donate their loose change or the change from their transaction to the local children’s hospital. As always, funds raised in Hawaii will go to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children and its program partners serving the neighbor islands to helptreat sick and injured children.

ORDER YOUR FREE COIN CANISTERS
  • Go to www.cu4kids.org/changedrive to place your order. Please consider all areas within your credit union where a member may visit (teller windows, loan officer’s desk, etc.)
  • You are welcome to order as many coin canisters as you need to conduct a successful campaign
  • There is no charge for these materials and shipping is complimentary
  • Please allow 5-7 business days for delivery of your kit. Orders will be shipped starting February 6, 2012
MARKETING MATERIALS
  • Marketing support materials are downloadable at www.cu4kids.org/changedrive
BEST PRACTICES
  • Involve all employees who have direct contact with your members. Be sure your team understands every donation large or small matters.
  • The key to the campaign is the “ask.” You may be surprised how eager your members are to make a donation to support Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children and its program partners serving the neighbor islands.
  • Have employees ask members to donate the change from a transaction, i.e. cashed check that includes coins.
  • Remember, every donation, whether large or small, adds up to help hospitalized kids in your community
  • Display the coin canisters in all areas where your employees have contact with your members (teller windows, member service representative’s desks, etc.)
  • Use the marketing materials available to show your members the impact they are helping you make for kids in your community.
ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES
  • Create a general ledger account to deposit the funds from the change collected.
  •  At the end of your campaign, sweep the ledger and write a check payable to Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network.
  • Send your checks to Hawaii Credit Union League, attention Laurie Moore. All donations will be tallied and forwarded to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in the beginning of May.
HOW IS THE MONEY USED?
Funds collected help Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children and its program partners provide care for all children, regardless of illness, injury or the family’s ability to pay. The dollars raised also help fund equipment, community outreach programs, hospital expansion, medical research and charity care.
